Remote Learning Update

Hello Fifth Grade Families!

We hope that you and your loved ones are doing well and are healthy during these crazy times. As many of you have read the message from Superintendent Williams, the structure of remote learning will be changing to benefit families and students.

The new structure will consist of STEM content on Mondays and Wednesdays, and Humanities content on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The work for the day will be posted at 6:00 AM that morning, and will be due by midnight that evening. The goal is to make the Google Classroom more manageable and easier to find material needed for the day.

There will be two optional Zoom meetings held each week for students to participate in and ask questions if they would like. Students do not need their own Zoom accounts to participate in these meetings!!  A STEM Zoom will be Monday mornings 8:45-10:00, and Humanities Zoom will be Wednesday mornings 8:45-10:00. Once again, participation in the Zoom meetings are completely optional. Students do not need to be logged into the Zoom for the entire time. Just as needed, and also for short drop-ins if they have any questions. They can stay in the meeting the entire time if desired as well.

The students will see their work on the Classwork portion of Google Classroom. Each day they will be asked to check in for their daily attendance and let us know how they are doing. The district is working on sending something to parents and guardians to help the school keep track of attendance as well.

Google Classroom has an option for parents and guardians to have access to get information on their student’s work for the week. The information you would receive includes what work is missing from the week, what they have turned in, and what they have due. If you would like access to this information, please respond to this email and we will add you to both Humanities and STEM classes.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns. We are here to help!

Kindly,
Ms. Kelleher and Ms. Moran

Full Steam Ahead!

Hello 5th Grade Families,

Can you believe it's already April?! We are missing everyone, but it has been wonderful to still hear from families through emails, calls, and see everyone's creativity in videos. Thank you to all who completed the Survey for 5th grade, and helped us understand how to move forward as a 5th grade team. We are working with your feedback to come up with some plans to move forward, and best help your family during this time.

Also, the school will be sending a permission form for your student to use Zoom. Zoom is a great tool for students to interact, check-in, and ask questions while video-conferencing with teachers and learning coaches. More news will be coming soon for how 5th grade will be using Zoom.

Below is the task sheet for all work that needs to be completed between this week and next week.

Please check on STEM and Humanities' blog pages to see updates from teachers.

Daily Task Completion Sheet (4/6-4/17)

Please let us know if you have any questions, we are here to help!

Warmly,

Ms. Moran and Ms. Kelleher

Fifth Grade Schedule

Hello Families,

Where to begin? This surely is an interesting way to start the final trimester of school. There are many emotions that we are all having with the recent events, but we hope that this letter and packet can provide some comfort and answers to your questions. We want to first start off by saying that we will miss the students greatly over the next few weeks and look forward to seeing everyone. We are sad that we were not able to properly say goodbye/see you soon. We are going to miss our fun bunch of fifth graders!

For academic logistics, underneath this letter is a schedule for classwork that is expected upon school return. There is a combination of Google Classroom work, blog Videos to watch, and math journal work to complete. We will hold unofficial office hours from 2:00-4:00 PM Monday through Friday and can be easily contacted via email if parents or students have questions about their assignments.

Inside this folder, I have included many items that I think will be helpful to you.  You will find a school schedule for home, a daily task completion sheet, a list of websites/apps that teachers approve, and some paper and pencil tasks and Google Classroom work for your child to complete.

We are only an email away. Please contact us at mmoran@rivendellschool.org or mkelleher@rivendellschool.org whenever you have a need. We cannot wait to see the fantastic fifth graders soon!

Color Cycle at SME

Hello Families,

Mrs. Johnson introduced the Color Cycle project here at SME at the beginning of the year to prevent dried up markers from going to the landfill. Fifth Grade offered to count how many markers SME has recycled throughout the year. To this date, 11/26, everyone at school has kept 531 markers out of the landfill and has recycled them via the Color Cycle program! Amazing job!!

Below is a chart that categorizes the numbers of each color that was recycled.

Warmly,
Ms. Kelleher and Ms. Moran
